Is a pediatric dentist necessary?

A pediatric dentist is the best choice for children because we only treat kids! This means we have a lot more experience dealing with their unique dental issues. Just like general dentists, pediatric dentists graduate from an accredited dental school, but after this, they go on to receive an additional two to three years of education focusing solely on providing dental care for young patients. Our offices—and even the tools we use!—are designed with kids in mind.

At what age should a child begin seeing a pediatric dentist?

All kids should start seeing the dentist either around their first birthday or within six months of the eruption of their first tooth. Early dental visits aren’t just important for oral health, but also for helping your child feel comfortable with our team and our office.

What age should a child go to the orthodontist?

Accepted Answer

It’s recommended that all children receive an initial evaluation from an orthodontist around the age of 7. Most kids don’t need orthodontic care at this point, and we simply continue to monitor their growth. In other cases, we may identify a concern that can be effectively treated with early orthodontic care; it’s much easier to treat these issues when the jaw is still growing than once it has fused together!

Should you worry about cavities in baby teeth?

Accepted Answer

Yes, cavities in baby teeth should always be treated. The only exception to this is if we believe, based on your child’s age and dental history, that a tooth might be about to fall out on its own. Otherwise, a cavity left untreated can spread, cause pain and embarrassment, and make it difficult for your child to eat.

Is it safe to sedate a child for dental work?

Accepted Answer

We use a safe, mild form of dental sedation called nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) for most of our patients. Risks and side effects are minimal; your child may feel lightheaded, nauseated, or experience a heavy sensation in their arms and legs. When necessary, we can also offer IV sedation, which is performed by an anesthesiologist.
